Mariachi Orgullo was founded in the fall of 2020 as a supplemental ensemble within the WC High School Orchestra Program. During the challenges of the pandemic, Orchestra Director Jason Thibodeaux, "Mr. T", recognized the importance of creating opportunities for students to build meaningful personal connections through music and collaboration.

Membership in Mariachi Orgullo is open to students who participate in Orchestra, Choir, or Band. The ensemble rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday in the Orchestra Building and features traditional mariachi instrumentation, including violin, vihuela, guitar, and guitarrón.

Since its inception, Mariachi Orgullo has performed throughout San Antonio at a variety of community and educational events. Performance highlights include elementary school fairs, the Día de los Muertos Downtown Parade, and a featured performance in the exhibit hall at the prestigious 2023 Midwest Clinic, one of the nation's premier music education conferences.
